Extended Italian Keyboard

This layout allows to customize the standard Italian keyboard by adding most of characters available in ISO-8859-1 set, that is, Latin-1 character set.

This package is intended for Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 only (no Windows 9x and NT support).

Installation

To install the keyboard you should double click on xITA.msi file from xITA folder. You can also open the context menu by using the right mouse button and click on Install.

Base layout

The base layout is the same of the Italian standard keyboard (Italian 141).

Shifted layout

The layout obtained by pressing the right or left Shift key is the same of the Italian standard keyboard.

Base alternate keyboard

The layout obtained by pressing at the same time the left Ctrl and Alt keys or the AltGr key on the right side of keyboard contains many additional characters with respect the Italian standard keyboard. Extensions are rendered by red ink in the picture below.

The layout obtained by pressing at the same time the right or left Shift key and the left Ctrl and Alt keys or the AltGr key on the right side of keyboard contains many additional characters with respect the Italian standard keyboard. Extensions are rendered by red ink in the picture below. Some keys are dead, that is, when you press them they do not cause any character to appear until you press another key. In such a case it may appear a composite character. Such keys are used for many accented characters and have an orange background in the picture below.

In the shifted alternate layout there are the following dead keys. By pressing in sequence a dead key and another key corresponding to a base character, you can obtain a composite character.
